Late Dinner increases the risk of Heart Attack and type 2 Diabetes
A study conducted by Researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine, at the University of Pennsylvania, has shown that late meals do not only have the risk of weight gain, it also affects cholesterol level which increases the risk of a heart attack. It also triggers the increase of insulin and glucose which causes type 2 diabetes.

Late dinner affects the memory
American researchers have shown in their study that late dinner can affect memory. Although this study was conducted on mice, it showed that mice fed late meals for two weeks had long-term memory problems.

Late dinner increases the risk of acid re-flux
Acid reflux is also known as heartburn. Heartburn happens because the meal eaten very close to bedtime is not fully digested, the acidic contents spill back to the oesophagus.
Dinner should be taken before 7 pm.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will sign the country’s budget tomorrow, seven months after the spending list was presented to the National Assembly.
Expectedly, the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held usually on Wednesdays will not hold.

“President @MBuhari will sign the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law tomorrow Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at noon,”  the presidency said in a tweet on Tuesday.

 

Buhari presented the 2018 Budget of Consolidation on the 7th of November 2017 to the National Assembly. It took about six months for the lawmakers to finally passed it.

They accused the ministries and federal agencies of frustrating the passage by failing to submit the breakdowns of their budget proposals, forcing a presidential order to that effect.
The spending plan as passed by the lawmakers was sent to the Presidency on May 25 after it N8.26 trillion estimate sent in by Buhari was jacked up to N9.12 trillion, representing an increment of N508billion.

 The Ministry of Power, Works and Housing received N682,959,550,242; Ministry of Transportation, N251,420,000.000; Ministry of Defence, N157,715,439.613; Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, N149,198,139.0 37; Ministry of Water Resources, N147,199,614,645; and Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, N105,156,176,854.Ministry of Education got N102,907,290,833; Ministry of Health, N86,482,848,198; Ministry of Environment, N17,492,955,833; and Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, N58,082,611,977.

The increment had triggered fears that the executive might decline assent, replaying the faceoff over the 2017 budget.

The death of Justice Timothy Oboh of the Auchi Criminal Division, Edo, on Tuesday, stalled trial in the N250 million libel case by Edo Governor’s aide, Taiwo Akerele, against The Guardian newspaper.

At the resumed hearing in Benin, the matter could not be heard following the death of the judge. The court’s registrar, who announced that the matter had been adjourned till Sept. 26, added that the court would not be sitting because “judges are mourning the death of a brother judge.”

Akerele, Chief of Staff to Gov. Obaseki, had instituted a libel suit against The Guardian over a story it published titled, “Probe of alleged diversion of relief materials begins in Edo.” In the suit, filed by his counsel and twin brother, Kehinde Akerele, the plaintiff sought “general and/or exemplary or aggravated damages for libel.” He prayed the court to order the newspaper to pay him N250 million as general and/or exemplary or aggravated damages for libel and another N2.5 million as costs.

Akerele further asked the court to compel The Guardian to publish a “well-worded retraction and apology in a similarly conspicuous manner, which must also be published in another newspaper.” The newspaper had reported that 4,781 of the 6,822 bags of rice meant for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)’ camp at Uhogua, Ovia North-East Local Government Area of the state, was missing.

The state Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, had accused the state government of diverting the items, insisting that it must account for the where-about of the said missing relief materials.

The police subsequently invited Orbih for questioning over the reported rice scandal. The state government, however, denied the allegation and maintained that the rice was judiciously disbursed. It claimed that all the rice and other items, including shoes, were distributed to the IDPs and other orphanage homes in the state, aside the ones that were damaged in the warehouse. (NAN)

Ahead of the 2019 General Elections, executive members of the Justice Must Prevail Party (JMPP) on Thursday, swore to an oath to remain upright in all their dealings or die. in order to deliver the country from its current situation.

The Party which is said to have been formed based on the vision from God, pledged to wrestle power both at the National and state levels through the activities of upright members.

To hold its members accountable, the Party led by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife and the party chairman, led other party leadership to take a “righteous Deadly” oath.

The Oath which employ three ordinances of the Earth, the Sun and the Blood, stipulates that any member who takes it and goes against its tenets will die.

The oath according to the party requires party members to remain upright, as any act of corruption after taking the oath will spell death for such party member.

Party members who want to take the oath are required to stand bare foot on the sand, holding on to the Holy Book or looking at the sun and then take the oath which will be sealed by a cleric.

Some other members of the party who led in taking of the oath are: National Chairman of the Party Amb. Olusegun Iyagbemi and former presidential aspirant, Sarah Jubrin.

While delivering the maiden press conference of the party, the chairman, Amb. Olusegun Iyagbemi said that many other parties have signed social contracts with Nigeria but failed.

“JMPP is not a Party of promises. IMPP’s social contract with Nigeria and Nigerians is based on covenant.

“Political promises produce politicians who have no respect for true God but engage in all manner of evils.

“Political covenants produce leaders, who by Righteous Deadly Oaths, connect themselves to the true God and therefore hold themselves out as eternal collaterals for the betterment of Nigeria and Nigerians.

“This is so because promises can fail but covenant cannot be broken. Without controversy, covenant is superior to promise!

“By the Covenant of 12 Pillars of Oath of Justice that holds the Peace and destiny of Nigeria, we involve the true God in our government and give room for Priests and Imams to be part of the divine direction in government,” he said.

The pillars of the oath include:

1 shall not steal any party or government funds or resources from one Naira upwards.

I shall not collect any gift that will influence my decisions while serving in office as JMPP official.

1 shall not give or receive bribe or engage in any sexual harassment, homosexuality or lesbianism.

I shall not award any contracts to myself or personal company directly or indirectly.

I shall not attack any church or mosque, Christian or Muslim, either directly or indirectly by inciting words or instruments.

I shall not engage in any diabolic acts.

I shall stand for justice for all the tribes and ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, and also stand for zonal rotation of the Offices of the president and that of the governor on the basis of one tenure of six years.

1 shall serve for one tenure in my present Office.

I shall not take jMPP or any member of the party to court before, during and after elections as a result of party electoral matters.

I shall not engage in any form of sabotage against the party and the government.

I shall not engage or be involved in any form of kidnapping activity in Nigeria.

Security agencies deploy personnel in states for hitch-free Sallah
The Inspector-General (IG) of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has approved the National Human Rights Commission’s (NHRC) request to begin an independent audit of detention cells in all police commands and formations in Nigeria.
The audit would also include all detention cells of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Head, Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU), Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Abayomi Shogunle, who disclosed this in a statement yesterday in Abuja, said the audit would enable the NHRC oversee the human rights situation of detainees as well as undertake general audit of the state of police detention facilities (cells) in the country.
Also, according to NAN, the National Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), Mr. Dickson Akoh, has appealed to the IG to unseal the headquarters of the corps in Jabi, Abuja.

 

 

Akoh, who said this at a news conference in Abuja yesterday, also urged stakeholders in the security sector to implore the police boss to obey the rule of law.

In another development, the IGP has directed Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of zones and state commands nationwide to beef up security and ensure massive deployment of police personnel to all praying grounds and other venues of celebration throughout the country to prevent crime and ensure hitch-free Sallah celebration.
In a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Moshood, the operation will cover recreation centres, public places and critical infrastructure and public utilities.
In Borno State, the police have deployed 5,000 personnel for a hitch-free Sallah celebration with three days show of force in Maiduguri metropolis.
Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu, who disclosed this at a news conference held at the Police Headquarters, Maiduguri, said: “The “show of force” commences today in Maiduguri metropolis and on Thursday and Friday to protect people’s lives and property during the celebration.”
In Lagos State, police formations are expected to embark on a show of force between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Thursday to demonstrate the command’s crime-fighting ability ahead of the Eid-el-Fitri celebration.
The state Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who ordered the operation, said it was to assure residents of adequate security during and after the Sallah holidays.
In a similar vein, Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has deployed 1,000 personnel, comprising regular and special marshals to oversee traffic activities on highways in the state.
In a statement signed by the State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele, the special patrol operations, which commenced from yesterday (Wednesday) to Monday, June 18, 2018, will focus on excessive speed, dangerous driving and other offences.

 

 

He urged motorists to contact FRSC toll-free No. 122, 08150646550 and 08023832594 in case of crash or obstruction.

Also in Jigawa, the FRSC has deployed 284 personnel and two ambulances to ensure safety on the roads across the state during the Eid-el-Fitri celebration.
The FRSC Sector Commander in the state, Mr. Angus Ibezim, told NAN in Dutse yesterday that the personnel deployed comprised 50 officers, 210 marshals and 25 special marshals.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 45,000 personnel nationwide to ensure a secured and peaceful celebration.
