A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded one Yahaya Garba, 27,
in prison custody for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl. Garba was
arraigned on a one-count charge of rape, contrary to Section 283 of the
Penal Code. The Prosecutor, Cpl. John Steven, told the court that
Alhassan Shaibu of Limawa Gwada reported the matter at the Gwada Station
on Nov. 21, 2015.
Steven said Shaibu’s wife noticed whitish discharge from her daughter’s private part. He added that the girl, when questioned, told her parents that the accused had sexual intercourse with her. He said the accused confessed to have raped the girl twice during police investigation.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty. The prosecutor applied for adjournment because investigation into the case was ongoing. In her ruling, the Magistrate Hafsat Abdullahi, ordered that the accused be remanded and adjourned the case till Feb. 18.
