UYO—The peace meeting convened by Akwa Ibom State Government to
resolve the longstanding feud between Ikot-Akpan Udo, Ikot-Abasi and
Amazaba communities, Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom
State, yesterday, ended in a deadlock.
The meeting which was presided over by the deputy governor, Moses
Ekpo, at Government House, Uyo, ended in a deadlock as the main issues
which led to the feud in 2008 between the two neighbours were allegedly
ignored by the government.
In the renewed hostilities, it was gathered that although no life was lost, property estimated at billions of naira were destroyed.
Addressing the delegations from the two villages made up of traditional rulers and opinion leaders, yesterday, the deputy governor expressed disappointment with the people over the recurring disputes and directed them to go back and resolve their differences themselves.
He warned that failure to resolve the crisis within the shortest possible time, would cause the state government to confiscate the disputed land.
Ekpo reiterated the determination of the state government to develop every community in the state, but said that the good intention would be defeated if communities in the state could not live together in peace
“The PDP government under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel certainly has a plan to develop every part of the state within the available resources but this cannot be realized in a situation of rancour and disagreements,” the deputy governor said.
